On a street corner a mysterious conversation among three young men at a street stalls. Meanwhile a traffic accident on a motorbike. The night brings together a sketch, a multi color frame of reality.
This short film is shot in a single angle, and the camera never moves from its position, filming a street corner full of life and movement. The shot just has some adjustments in zooming or focus on somebody/something in particular, from time to time. On screen are many different stories, all told just in one take: this represents perfectly the title of the film. Even if nothing “spectacular” happens (although we have an accident off screen), it makes you feel aware of how big is the universe, how many threads are linked between different people, how many existences will touch each other even for seconds, and how many will never even connect. STAY AWAKE, BE READY is pretty interesting, even though a spectator may find difficult to concentrate to something in particular, having so many things moving on screen: but that’s the beauty of this story that, so simply yet so effectively, represents life.
STAY AWAKE, BE READY won many awards and was selected for festivals around the world. To name a few: Illy Award for Best Short at Quinzaine des Réalisateurs Cannes 2019, Best International Short “Meeting Point” Section at Semana Internacional de Cine de Valladolid – Seminci, NOW Award for Best ASEAN Short Film at Flickerfest International Short Film Festival in Australia. Was part of official selections at Locarno Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Singapore International Film Festival, Amarcort Film Festival, Stockholm International Film Festival, London Short Film Festival and many more.
