Wingsuit BASE jumping is often presented as a thrill seeking adrenaline rush. Spellbound takes us deeper into the more contemplative aspects of jumping, as David Walden and friends venture into the mountains around his home in New Zealand.

SPELLBOUND is an amazing short documentary which will leave you breathless. In just five minutes, the director is able to give emotions of freedom, infinity, connection with nature, by following David Walden and his friends, the “bird people”. While, as said in the synopsis itself, Wingsuit Base Jumping is usually described as an adrenalin-filled sport, something along the line of bungee jumping and so on, in SPELLBOUND Sidey explores more deeply the aspects of practicing this peculiar activity. With words that feel like a poem, we follow the athletes flying through the sky, between the mountains, above rivers, fields, one with the nature. With amazing cinematography, we feel we are accompanying these flights, these amazing jumps, and we can understand that they are much more than just an adrenaline shot.

SPELLBOUND won Best Short in Mountain Film Unit Award at China International New Media Short Film Festival 2021.
