Synopsis:

Lu and Wei are two young girls living in a village nestled on the banks of a river. As the one-child policy has led some families to drown baby girls, they both have a special relationship with this river, which looks like a cradle of tragic stories.

Dans La Rivière‘s synopsis

Following, you will find the translation of the Technical Jury’s motivation for awarding Step Into The River a Special Mention. Jurors from the 2021 Rex Jury were Federico Fiecconi, Massimo Montigiani and Sabrina Zanetti.

A great little masterpiece of cinematographic poetry, on a dramatic social issue, which is expressed by the young Chinese author with strong oneiric tension. Also thanks to the wonderful score, the short film creates a spectacle of poignant magic.
